Murder in Matera - A Book Talk with Helene Stapinski
Wednesday, April 17

On Wednesday, April 17, Murder in Matera: A True Story of Passion, Family, and Forgiveness in Southern Italy will allow us to hear directly from Helene Stapinski about a decades-long quest to seek the truth about her great-great-grandmother and family secrets about her past. While it reads like a novel, the crimes, passions, family loyalties, and folklore lead into an incredible story about immigration, the treatment of women in 19th century rural southern Italy, the protective roles mothers play in our lives, and what a new start in America meant to many who came here to escape poverty, forlorn futures, and prejudices that are prevalent in all eras.

CCF's Scholarship Program 40th Anniversary Kickoff Party
Tuesday, April 16

CCF’s Scholarship program celebrates its 40th anniversary in 2024! Thanks to CCF Member and High School Scholarship Committee Chair, Frank Somma, we're kicking off this celebration with a fundraising event at the Townhouse to create a 40th Anniversary High School Scholarship. Our goal is to raise $30,000, which will provide $7500 per year for four years to the student who receives it. The dedication of so many CCF members and friends has made this program possible. Today, the program continues to thrive and grow thanks to the generosity of CCF members, the success of the annual Gala, and, most importantly, the tremendous achievements of the students who receive these awards. The program has distributed nearly $40 million in support to Italian American students since its inception and each year we meet ever-more deserving students who demonstrate they are leaders in their personal and professional lives. All year we are celebrating this great milestone. Stay tuned for oral histories from past and present members who have helped shape the Scholarship program, events with past recipients, and special initiatives to make the program even stronger.

FEATURED PROJECTS - THE PICCIRILLI BROTHERS

The Foundation sponsors many projects and activities aimed at promoting Italian-American excellence and highlighting the immense contribution that Italians have made to the United States throughout history

Among many other initiatives CCF, in the first 2023 has sponsored a documentary on the Piccirilli Brothers, Italian sculptors who changed the face of public works in the United States with iconic sculptures.

The masterly Piccirilli brothers set up a shop in the Bronx and used hammers and chisels to create some of the most important public sculptures in the city.
We were delighted to host the Italian American Podcast earlier last year for the taping of an episode with Eduardo Montes-Bradley describing his work and how he came to be interested in the Piccirilli, their Bronx carving workshop and school, the enduring legacy of their extraordinary works of art.

Columbus Citizens Foundation is thrilled to be a partner with Eduardo Montes-Bradely in the creation of this documentary that sheds light on an important aspect of Italian American culture. All immigrants have contributed to the betterment of the United States in very profound ways
