Scholarship Spotlight:
Emily Barrett - @foxburrowdesigns

Emily Barrett is a CCF College Scholarship recipient, dual Italian and American citizen, Fashion Institute of Technology graduate, artist, and entrepreneur. She left her corporate job in New York City to pursue the dream of creating inspiring pieces of art and traveling the world. After a backpacking trip across Southeast Asia, she got to work launching her own business, Fox Burrow Designs LLC. Inspired by her travel photos, Emily began designing art prints, textiles, and other products which have landed her in shops across the country and abroad.

The Fashion Institute of Technology was the right fit for Emily as a creative person and the Fabric Styling Program to her was a fun and interesting major with a real focus on internships and setting her up for a job upon graduation. She notes that receiving the scholarship from CCF gave her the opportunity to go to her dream school and gave her a sense of pride that her academic achievements and hard work in high school had really made a difference. Something that Emily believes may not have been possible without the CCF scholarship was her acceptance to a summer study abroad course in Italy in 2014. She was able to see centuries old textile techniques and gain the seed of inspiration that made her want to start her own business. She will be putting her Italian language skills to the test this April 2024 on her honeymoon!

Emily gave some advice to our current scholarship recipients, “this time in your life is really special and scary at the same time. It's important to remember not to limit yourself and try everything. Sometimes taking a class that has nothing to do with your major can open your eyes to things you never knew you were good at or loved. And don't be scared to make mistakes. Starting my business was full of mistakes in the beginning but has led to six years of my dream job full time.”
